The fans got loud and the robots rolled onto center stage as more than 200 students competed in the first LEGO League Challenge.
36 teams from valley schools built their robots and then tried to complete as many tasks as possible within two-and-a-half minutes.
Michael Adam said, "This year's game is called hydrodynamics so teams are looking at water solutions, looking at how humans use water either in manufacturing, directly in their daily lives whether it's through flushing or how they can improve our use of water to make it better for everyone in the future."
Saturday's top team move on to the LEGO League finals in February.
