Police say the stabbing happened at Shaw and Brawley in northwest Fresno at about 5:40 pm.
The victim, who is his thirties, was wounded in the upper body.
He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery.
Police are trying to find out what led to the stabbing.
The victim told police he was confronted by someone he knows, who stabbed him.
