Do It Now ... Or Do It Later?

ORLANDO, Fla. (KFSN) -- The saying "don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today" is a lot easier said than done. With so many distractions, getting something finished can be difficult. But there are five helpful tips to overcome procrastination.

The first step to avoid procrastination is to start easy. Look at your project and do the simplest part first.

This creates momentum to get the rest of the job done.

Two, start anywhere. Too much planning can actually be another form of procrastination. It's best to just get started somewhere to get you into your project.

Three, know your excuses and don't let yourself use them.

Four, don't rely on your memory. Sometimes procrastination isn't about putting something off but rather forgetting to do something. Make a list and keep yourself organized.

And finally, number five, don't over think things.

Overthinking leads to doubts and creates impossible standards. There are even apps that help prevent procrastination. Try Procraster, AppDetox, or Yelling Mom, an app that will nag you with sirens and whistles to remind you of scheduled tasks.

Think you don't procrastinate? New research states that we waste up to three hours every workday doing things other than the work we are supposed to be completing.
