Gov. Brown signs new bill banning all guns on school campuses

Saturday, October 14, 2017
Governor Jerry Brown has signed a bill banning guns on school campuses.

State law already prohibited civilians who are not school workers from bringing firearms onto school grounds, but a change in the law last year gave school district superintendents power to decide whether they would let their employees carry.

Five state school districts, including Kingsburg Joint Union had begun to allow employees carry guns on campus.

Supporters of the bill claimed the previous law endangered students.

The law will go into effect January 1st.
