MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of a father and son in Madera County early Sunday morning.

"We have made an arrest on Francisco Trejo Ramirez. He was caught late yesterday attempting to cross the border into Mexico," said Sheriff Pogue.

Ramirez is accused of shooting and killing 60-year-old Jesus Gil Sr. and his son 33-year-old Jesus Gil Jr., also known as Jesse.

It all happened at about 4 am near Las Palmas Avenue and Paraiso Street.

Deputies said Ramirez had a disagreement with Jesse in the early morning hours on Sunday while at a wedding reception.

Ramirez then went over to Gil Sr.'s house to tell him about the argument with his son.

While at the home, the sheriff's office said Ramirez shot and killed Gil Sr. after they got into another argument.

A 15-year-old family friend who was at Gil Sr.s house at the time was also injured.

The boy is still in the hospital and expected to be okay.

Deputies said Ramirez then went back to the wedding reception where he shot and killed Jesse, just minutes after killing his father.

The two shootings happened about a block away from each other.

Ramirez's arrest brings some peace to the Gil family.

"This is an extremely tragic situation," Pogue said during a news conference. "Our condolences go out to the family. Mr. Espinoza not only was murdered on Father's Day and the same day as his son, but it was also his birthday."

Alejandra Gil, the daughter, and sister to the two men, said now, it's figuring out how to tell her brother's children that their dad is not coming home.

"It's been very hard, and we haven't been able to tell his three youngest kids that keeps asking for him. Asking for their dad to see where he's at. Why hasn't he came home. Why was their grandpa laying on the ground with a lot of blood," said Alejandra.

Ramirez is now in custody and being moved back to Madera County, where he will be booked into jail.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the Gil family.
