Officers have identified the woman as 85-year-old Katherine Wilkins of Chowchilla.
It happened on westbound Avenue 12 just west of Highway 99.
The California Highway Patrol says the driver had just left the highway when he hit the accelerator instead of the break, hitting the concrete median and overturning his Chevy Equinox.
That caused the car to roll over, killing Wilkins.
