MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a deadly crash in Merced County.

Officers say it happened around 2:30 pm Wednesday near Fahey Rd. and Cherokee Rd. near the Santa Nella community.

Officers say both a Nissan and Honda were going east on Fahey when for unknown reasons, the driver of the Nissan lost control and went over the westbound lane and into the north shoulder of Fahey.

The Nissan crashed into a telephone pole. Officers say Elias Flores and Carlos Galindo died at the scene.

The driver of the Honda also lost control and went to the south side of the road, hit a guard rail and overturned in a canal. That driver suffered minor injuries.
