FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Evacuation orders have been lifted for residents in southwestern Fresno County as CAL FIRE crews continue to gain control of the 28,500-acre Mineral Fire.

CAL FIRE says firefighters expect to have the Mineral Fire contained by Friday.

Crews have been following new protocols that come along with COVID-19, including wearing face masks, social distancing, and avoiding exposure at all costs.

Officials say the fire is burning in hard-to-reach brush and grass, with uphill and wind-driven runs adding to the difficulty.

"The terrain is extremely steep and very difficult to access so it is challenging for firefighters," said Jamie Williams with CAL FIRE.

The Red Cross set up an evacuation site at West Hills College in Coalinga but closed it down by Wednesday evening because evacuees were able to make their own arrangements.

Red Cross will still be available virtually for help with any arrangements if needed. They say that's what most evacuations will look like from here on out this fire season.
