Pilot killed in crash involving jet based at Naval Air Station Lemoore

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway after a pilot was killed in a jet crash.

The aircraft involved was based out of Naval Air Station Lemoore.

The crash happened around 2:30 Friday afternoon in the area of Trona, California, in the Mojave Desert -- just east of Ridgecrest.

Officials confirmed the pilot of the Super Hornet jet was killed.

The pilot has not yet been identified, but the Naval Air Force has confirmed the service member was from the San Diego area.
