FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- At 10:30 Tuesday night, Fresno Police were called to San Jose and Sherman Avenues in southeast Fresno for a shooting.

"I heard a pop, pop, pop, about ten times, and it kind of shocked me," said neighbor Chris Gainey.

When officers arrived, they found two victims who were shot.

"The 24-year-old male was transported to CRMC, and he survived his injuries and was later released," said Lt. Paul Cervantes with the Fresno Police Department.

The other, now identified as 18-year-old Ethan Vang, was pronounced dead when he arrived at Saint Agnes hospital.

"I can tell you that he is a member of a validated criminal street gang, whether or not this particular case happens to be gang-motivated has yet to be determined," said Lt. Cervantes.

Police say Vang lived with his parents at the home where he died.

Chris Gainey, who lives next door, tells Action News that the family is very nice, and they've been good neighbors.

"No matter what the affiliation, anytime somebody in a family dies that like that, it's not right. I feel really bad for them," said Gainey.

Fresno police say they are doing everything they can to find those responsible, but need the public's help.

"At this point, we have located some video evidence in the neighborhood, but we're currently canvassing looking for further evidence to assist us in not only identifying but also locating and apprehending the individuals responsible for this heinous crime," said Lt. Cervantes.

Police say this is the 26th homicide so far this year.

That's compared to 50 at this time in 2022 and 63 in 2021.

"We're seeing a steady decrease in overall murders, and I can also tell you that the same applies when it comes to violent crime across the board," said Lt. Cervantes.
