FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Four years after a deadly attack at the FreshCo Foods Center on Shields and Brawley avenues, Guillermo Perez and Alejandra Munoz learned their punishment.

Perez and Munoz were convicted for the killing of 70-year-old Richard Martin who was shot while sitting inside his car in that dark parking lot.

On Friday morning, the judge sentenced both Perez and Munoz back-to-back and denied probation.

Perez is facing 57 years to life for shooting and killing Martin.

Munoz is facing 26 years to life for being an accessory to murder.

The judge made it clear that both would be a risk to the community.

"The court is going to respectfully deny the request because the court does not believe that it would be in the interest of justice," says Judge Alvin Harrell. "The court finds that the dismissal of an enhancement would endanger public safety."

During the trial, the lead homicide investigator testified about how surveillance video and search warrants helped piece together the case.

Video of Perez was shown with him on roller blades, shooting a gun.

Munoz was the one who drove Perez to the parking lot, but Munoz's defense argued there was not enough evidence showing that she knew he would open fire at the victim.

She claimed to have been there in search of drugs.

Munoz's attorney requested a new trial. The judge denied that motion.

Perez and Munoz will be transferred to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
