MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has died following a crash in Madera County on Tuesday.

The crash happened on Avenue 7 1/2 near Road 9 just after 5 am.

The California Highway Patrol says the 27-year-old was going east in a Dodge on Avenue 7 1/2 when he veered over into the way of an oncoming Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet tried to swerve to avoid the crash but was still hit by the left side of the Dodge.

Officers say the man in the Dodge went onto the shoulder and hit a power pole before the car flipped. They added he was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Officers are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The driver of the Chevrolet suffered minor injuries.
