FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For the last 50 years, Good Morning America has been helping viewers across the country start their day.

The team is celebrating the anniversary Monday.

Action News Anchor Jessica Harrington took a trip to The Big Apple to catch up with the anchors and correspondents about the major milestone.

Michael Strahan, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos have been co-anchoring together since 2016.

George, who had to be convinced to join the show as a co-anchor, has been there now for 16 years.

Fourteen of those years, GMA has been the most watched morning newscast in total viewers, season to date.

"I think they feel like we're part of their family and they know they can trust us to give them the news they need at the beginning of the day, but to also give them a big slice of life over the course of two hours, put a smile on their face," Stephanopoulos said.

ABC News Correspondent Will Reeve has covered stories in 41 states and eight countries. He says he does have a style of story he looks forward to telling the most.

"The stories I love to do are ones that feature people overcoming the odds or triumphing in the face of adversity or any sort of everyday heroism. I think that's what makes humanity great, and I think that's what makes GMA great too, is we get to amplify those types of stories," Reeve said.

Roberts, Stephanopoulos and Strahan have been working together on the show full-time since 2016.

Roberts and Stephanopoulos since 2009, making them the longest-serving pair of hosts ever on an ABC, CBS or NBC morning show.

Correspondent Janai Norman says her goal is to feel like a friend delivering the day's news.

"I hope to make anyone watching feel something every time I'm on because it is those moments that sit with people when they feel connected, feel seen, feel impressed or taken aback," Norman said.

Roberts says over the years, viewers have allowed her to showcase her relatability as a journalist. That includes when her family was impacted by Hurricane Katrina, her health journey and her marriage.

"People were like, 'You're being real. You're being authentic.' I was like, 'Oh my gosh, people just want you to be who you are.' That gave me the confidence and the courage -- the viewers did -- by rallying behind me," Roberts said.

As the show gears up to celebrate 50 years, Strahan says they're all considering the impact they've had.

"There haven't been many, I guess, hosts of this show, so I just hope the legacy we leave behind is one of professionalism, one of truth, one of respect and one of enjoyment," Strahan said.

Good Morning America will air a special 50th anniversary show on Monday at 7 am.
