Fresno Police announced 30-year-old Danilo Rodas as the city's sixth homicide victim in the month of March.
The killer is still unknown to investigators, but early evidence points to a possible relationship between the suspect and the victim.
Officers found Rodas in the Starbucks parking lot at about 5 pm Sunday.
He had been shot in the upper body and was treated on scene, but was pronounced dead soon after.
Investigators say the victim had walked to the location where he came across people he's believed to have known.
"It appears that our victim of this incident, Mr. Rodas, was involved in the disturbance in the parking lot area of that Starbucks with at least one, if not more individuals, which is a very brief encounter during which time he was shot," said Fresno Police Lt. Brian Valles.
Lt. Valles says parts of the incident were captured on surveillance video, which has helped investigators determine that multiple vehicles were also involved in the murder.
The shooting happened in broad daylight, just feet away from several homes, and forced the coffee shop to shut down temporarily.
Tuesday, the business was back up and running as normal.
"Where there's populated areas, we're always grateful. We don't like things like this to happen, but it could have been worse," Lt. Valles said.
It's the latest in a brazen stretch of violent crime in Fresno, with nine homicides this year, compared to four at this time in 2025 and six killings committed in the last month alone.
"We recognize that this is going to be a very busy week. We have extra patrols that will be working, not necessarily to relate to this violence, but just to keep the city safe itself."
Fresno Police have not provided a description of the vehicles or people involved in the shooting and are now asking for the public's help in their investigation.
