Laptops and tablets are not only used for learning but also to keep parents in the loop.
"It definitely improves the connection to school," says Visalia Unified Executive Director of Student Services, Natali Garza.
There are different kinds of tech tools that Central California schools use to keep parents in the know.
"The PowerSchool app is integral to be downloaded and to be accessed," Garza said. "What lives there is PowerSchool Messenger, so all the messages that are coming from the school district and the school site."
The Visalia Unified School District adds PowerSchool can be used to check grades, homework, and attendance.
The district also has its Stopfinder app, which lets parents see if their child made it on the right school bus.
There's even a 24/7 online tutoring tool called Paper.
"I think a lot of times, we hear from our students that my parents don't know how to help, but they can sit alongside and get the learning with the student in order to reinforce," Garza said.
The Fresno Unified School District says it's fully launched its transportation app called "Zum."
Parents can use it to track their child's bus ride and even get updates on foggy day schedules.
"Our goal is to send those notices well ahead of time so you have that information so you could plan and get your son or daughter out to the location on time," says Fresno Unified Chief Technology Officer Paoze Lee.
Just like how Visalia Unified uses PowerSchool, FUSD uses ATLAS Parent Portal.
This year, there is a new feature.
"If your child wants to transfer to another school in our district in the ATLAS parent portal, they can click on the transfer button, and it will take them to a different school where they can choose the school site where they are going," Lee said.
These tech tools can give parents peace of mind.
School district leaders say families should sign up for these tech tools before the year starts so that they can help their kids achieve their goals.
