Grass fire sparks off Highway 190 east of Porterville

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters say a structure was destroyed following a grass fire in Porterville.

Fire crews are calling this fire the Rocky Incident.

Tulare County Fire says firefighters have stopped forward progress on the flames.

The large flames were seen off Highway 190 near Road 284.

The fire charred about 120 acres after igniting just before 4 pm Sunday, creating heavy smoke in the area.



Firefighters are trying to contain the hot spots and say the fire is 70-percent contained.

The flames forced Caltrans to close a portion of Highway 190 for several hours and has since reopened.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

It's not yet known what caused this fire to spark.
