Bulldog Breakdown: Looking at the bright spots for Fresno State Football in Kansas loss

Tuesday, August 26, 2025
FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno State Bulldogs are four days away from their home opener.

Head coach Matt Entz spoke on Monday about how a few players fared in their first game as Bulldogs, including starting quarterback E.J. Warner.

"[Warner] had the ability to get in and out of plays at different times, and then just got to continue to emphasize ball security," Entz said on Monday. "He has unbelievable intelligence of the game. There wasn't anyone harder on themselves than E.J. was after the game and during the game. We need to give him the tools to be able to flush it during the game and move on. The next play is the most important one, and next game is the most important one right now, because it's the only one we have this week."

The 'Dogs are hoping to bounce back from a 31-7 loss on Saturday.

Entz added that the team had great energy and true freshman starter Brayden Walton made an impression guarding Warner's blind side.

"I think Brayden Walton played pretty well for an 18-year-old that got thrown in against a Big-12 team on national TV, and handled himself with great composure. Probably has a couple of plays that he wishes he had back but we all do."

Next up for Fresno State is its home opener against Georgia Southern. Kickoff from Valley Children's Stadium is set for Saturday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m.
