FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Shoppers flooded northeast Fresno on Friday as the River Park Center opened the doors to its newest store.

Mayor Jerry Dyer welcomed customers to a new Burlington Coat Factory.

"Being from Sanger, my girlfriends from Fresno, but we came out here and even if it's a far drive, it was really worth the drive," said one shopper.

It's the city of Fresno's third location, but Tracy Kashian with River Park says it's the first to feature the company's new store layout.

"It's such a great location for them that fits in our marketplace so well, and we have this beautiful space available, so it's just a great fit for them. They fought to bring their new modernized footprint into this location," Kashian said.

This newest location sits off Blackstone and El Paso, filling the building that once housed Buy, Buy Baby.

Kashian tells us it's an important addition that caters to a wider audience.

"Sometimes you bring out a specific type of store, and it's a harder demographic to get out here because it's so specific. This is such a great store with everything inclusive," she said.

Kashian added that Burlington's introduction is just one of the many projects in an ongoing effort to refresh River Park

The center has recently begun introducing more recurring community events.

"Salsa has started the second and fourth Monday of every month here in the shops, and the astronomers are starting to come back every Friday, the last Friday of every month," Kashian explained.

And just up the road, several businesses are currently boarded up for big time renovations.

"We always want to bring what Fresno wants. You know, things change over time, and some of the stores get tired and you got to refresh them, and some things go away, and you got to bring something new," Kashian said.
