FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The downtown Fresno area will be busy tomorrow and into the weekend with a popular event at Chukchansi Park and a Cinco de Mayo Bar Crawl.

"What we really want to tell them is enjoy yourself, that is what this community is about, it's going out there and enjoying yourself," said CHP Officer Mike Salas.

A fun time but also a safe time.

"However, we want them to be able to be responsible," Salas said. "In doing so, think before you drink."

This weekend is expected to be busy with Cinco de Mayo Celebrations and Tequila Fest, drawing in thousands of people. The California Highway Patrol is prepared to have extra officers on the road, keeping a close eye on drivers.

"Friday, Saturday and through Sunday, we will have a multitude of officers out there, again working hand in hand with local agencies just to remove those impaired drivers, keeping our community safe," Salas said.

Salas said it's about having a plan to get home before arriving at any of the events taking place.

On Friday, the first-ever Cinco De Mayo Crawl is happening, organized by the "Downtown Fresno Partnership" with 18 bars participating, including Moses McQueen's.

Event Manager Marissa Arreguin says that even if you don't drink, this event allows you to explore the downtown bar scene.

"You can see the competition too because there are prizes at the end of the crawl when you get the stamps, so people are like 'which bar are you going to first', it's been cool for people to turn it into a game aspect of who can reach the end first," said Marissa Arreguin with the Downtown Fresno Partnership.

At Moses McQueen's, they're ready for the large crowds with specialty drinks including blended margaritas. Jacquline Flores, a bartender at Moses McQueen's, reminds folks to be patient and enjoy the recently opened business.

"I just want everyone to have fun, enjoy themselves and have a great time," Flores said.

The Fresno trolly system will be running for free with added stops, getting people from one place to another.

On Saturday, the well-known Tequila Fest is taking over Chukchansi Park with artists including Nelly and Elvis Crespo.

Salas is reiterating that it only takes one bad decision to change your life or someone else's.

"We see it time and time again, fatal crashes caused by impaired drivers and that is what we are trying to prevent, the loss of life," Salas said. "We are trying to make sure that everyone is as responsible as they can."
