Dine and Dish: Kanojo in Madera

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Kanojo on Howard Road and Schnoor Avenue in Madera is designed to give people a foodie vibe.

"I'm a foodie myself, so I wanted something close to home so people don't have to drive out of town," says owner Jilliane Hatsavongsa. "Something good and delicious."

That's what Hatsavongsa has created.

Take the chicken katsu sando, or sandwich.

"It's really different, really tasty."

Jilliane's father, Bo, owned a sushi spot called Oishii in Fresno and Madera before retiring, though you'll still sometimes find him in the kitchen.

You'll also find Jilliane's mom, Cindy, preparing dishes.

"I love my family, I love my parents," Jilliane said. "How they taught us to work hard."

Korean bulgogi beef bowls have been a big hit.

Korean corn dogs are all the rage.

"A big mozzarella stick, that's what they are," Jilliane said.

The elote option was my favorite.

"There's cheese and hot dog, and then there's sweet corn on the outside along with parmesan cheese," Jilliane said.

Two other Korean corn dogs were featured.

Tuna poke bowls were a natural addition with the family's sushi background.

"Kanojo" is a Japanese word.

"Like sweet girl, girlfriend," Jilliane said.

Sweet drinks from Japan and Hawaii are available.

"Something you don't see often in stores," Jilliane said.

Hatsavongsa knew what types of meals were missing in Madera, so she set out to fill the void.
