FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A young Fowler woman is dead after a freak accident on Highway 99 in Downtown Fresno.
The accident happened near the Highway 41 junction at about 5:15 p.m. Friday. The California Highway Patrol says a big rig was traveling north when one of its wheels came off and rolled across the median. It slammed into the roof and driver's side door of a Toyota Corolla in the southbound lanes.
The 22-year-old driver of that car died at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.
Officers are still investigating why the big rig lost its wheel.
