Neighbors said the man had difficulty getting around and the flames spread too quickly for anyone nearby to help.
"It was so big and so fast that there was no hope of saving him," said neighbor Vivian Piestrup.
The mobile home was left barely intact and heavily charred, and two cars on the property were also badly burned.
One woman, who asked that her face not be shown on camera, described the situation as devastating.
"Especially in that way. I just hope the smoke got him before the fire did," Betty Schwendeman said.
Another neighbor said she had known the man for more than a decade.
"He was an awesome man. Everybody liked him," said the neighbor.
A man who lives directly behind the victim told Action News off-camera that he was able to keep the flames from spreading to his own home. Despite trying to rescue the man and the two dogs trapped inside, he was unable to save them.
Neighbors said they are grateful for his efforts.
"He is definitely a hero for trying to save that man," Piestrup said.
