Ken Anderson said he was alerted to the fire on May 13 after neighbors began calling.
"I went home for dinner, and then all our neighbors out here started calling and saying there's a major fire," Anderson said.
The blaze tore through a trailer and garage on the property, destroying much of the family's Halloween equipment - a centerpiece of an annual tradition that draws hundreds of visitors each year.
"Most of all, though, in the garage was all our Halloween stuff, and we go kinda big for Halloween," Anderson said.
Video from the scene shows large animatronic decorations and props engulfed in flames. Anderson estimates that about $15,000 worth of items, including skeletons and decorative pieces, were reduced to ash.
He said the situation could have been far worse.
"I was gonna take a nap, and the firefighters told me later, if I would have done that, I just wouldn't have woke up," Anderson said.
Nearly two weeks after the fire, the smell of smoke still lingers, and debris remains scattered across the property. Despite the loss, Anderson said he is determined to move forward.
"When you see this... what do you feel?" he was asked. "Well, I mean, it's a little depressing... But what are you gonna do? Keep moving, right?"
The Anderson family's Halloween display has become a tradition in the North Valley, transforming their property each year with detailed setups and lighting.
"Now, it's become a tradition for people, and so that's why I can't really give up on that," Anderson said. "I've got a family to feed, and we've got kids to make happy on the Halloween stuff, you know."
Among the damage, Anderson said one item stood out, a painting created by his late mother that survived the fire largely intact.
"You know, maybe it's a blessing in disguise. I can't see how yet, but I, you know, does make you appreciate life more. I'll tell you that," he said.
A GoFundMe has been created to help the Anderson family recover ahead of the Halloween season.
