Fresno County supervisors deal blow to transportation tax initiative to extend Measure C

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno County supervisors dealt a setback to the effort to put an extension of the Measure C transportation tax on the 2026 midterm ballot.

The video above is from an earlier story and will be updated.

Supervisors Gary Bredefeld, Buddy Mendes and Nathan Magsig voted on Tuesday afternoon to send the transportation tax to a 30-day impact report study. That delay could prevent the measure from being on the 2026 ballot, likely delaying it to 2028.

Supervisors Luis Chavez and Brian Pacheco voted to have it as part of this year's midterm elections.

The initiative would continue the transportation tax known as Measure C, which is set to expire next year.

Fresno City leaders, who unanimously support the measure, said it would generate more than $13 billion to help repair some of Fresno County's worst roads.

"This is not a time to play politics. This is not about political perspective. This is about doing the right thing for the right reason for the people who live and travel throughout Fresno County," Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said during a news conference on Monday.

Dyer warned back in June that if the initiative failed to pass, it could leave the City of Fresno without a "dedicated funding source for road repairs."
