PARLIER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Family, friends and community members gathered to say their final goodbyes to a beloved Parlier police officer on Friday.

It was an emotional morning in Dinuba as Officer Juan Rodriguez was laid to rest.

The Catholic church was full with family, friends, students, loved ones and law enforcement, all present in support.

It is something that did not go unnoticed by the Rodriguez family.

"We have gotten so much support from Parlier, from the department, from the city of Parlier, from the community and family. We just thank them from the bottom of our hearts," said Luz Ramirez, Officer Rodriguez's older sister.

She says her brother loved his family, his two sons, and the tight-knit community he served.

"He had a passion to work in Parlier; he loved that little town. He loved working at the school," expressed Luz.

Rodriguez was a school resource officer and impacted the lives of many students.

Being an officer is something his family says he always wanted to do.

"From the time he joined our team, he was a special individual," mentioned Parlier Police Chief David Cerda.

He was a positive light at home, too.

His mom, Gloria Soria Rodriguez, says, her son loved his dad, Santos Rodriguez, a lot.

The two shared a passion for boxing.

"It hurts to lose him. He was a good son, he always listened," said Santos.

Officer Rodriguez passed away on November 9th from a health issue.

His mom is now urging people, especially law enforcement, to do their regular health checkups.

In the meantime, the family holds to their faith to get them through.

"By the relationship I have with the lord, that's what's keeping me strong because he gives peace that surpasses all understanding," explained Luz.
