CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- The room went red at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District in an effort to raise awareness for the number one killer of women.

The American Heart Association held the Go Red for Women Luncheon, along with a health and wellness expo, on Thursday.

Health experts and advocates dressed in red for the fundraiser.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, accounting for almost half of all reported deaths in 2021.

Money raised helps foster life-saving partnerships.

"We're working with local clinics and physician offices to educate people out in the community who have a history of high blood pressure, ensuring they have a blood pressure kit at home and they know how to check their blood pressure," says Cynthia Cervantes with Anthem Blue Cross.

The featured guest was Alexandria Cordova, a 21-year-old survivor of congenital heart disease.
