"I Got Him": Visalia sexual assault survivor speaks out after breaking silence on ABC's 20/20

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- For decades, Central California has known her only as Jane Doe #1, a victim.

But she is a survivor -- one of several women whom Nickey Stane assaulted after he killed Debbie Dorian in 1996.

"I stayed quiet," Beth told Action News on Monday. "I just didn't know the words to express without crying."

On Friday, America met Beth as she revealed her name and told her story for the first time on ABC's 20/20.

"It was a moment," Beth said about her 20/20 interview. "Very good, just to see (it) out."

Beth's story of survival and courage left an impact on the country, and on co-anchor JuJu Chang, who told Action News last week about Beth's strength.

"She had a gun pointed at her, and she told the perpetrator, 'You're not going to get away with this. I'm going to get you,'" JuJu said. "That is the name of this episode of 20/20."

Through their interview, JuJu and Beth formed a connection that will now last a lifetime.

Beth plans to get a tattoo in JuJu's handwriting. It will read, "Survivor."

"It means a little bit more coming from her," Beth said. "She was the first one that interviewed me, and so to have something of her."

Decades of fighting for justice haven't been easy.

There was no suspect for 20 years, and when there was, court hearings were slow and forced her to relive her pain.

She has found comfort in a therapy dog.

"Dogs are so calming, just to see that he's there," Beth said about North, one of two dogs the Fresno County District Attorney's Office has for victims.

North has been by Beth's side for years, including as she testified in November 2023, as she delivered her impact statement in June 2025 and as she spoke with JuJu in July.

"I could redirect my energy towards him instead of what's going on," Beth said. "It gives that little extra 'It's going to be OK.'"

Beth now says she is moving forward day by day.

Before Action News left, she wanted to remind America about her promise - in the midst of the assault - to Stane.

"I said it to him numerous times, 'I'm going to get you,'" Beth said.

"And I got him."
