FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- At the Sports Clips barbershop off Fowler and Herndon in Clovis, customers can get not only a fresh look but also support a good cause.

"We are donating $6 dollars from every MVP haircut to Valley Children's Hospital Wilson Heart Center," Emily Kneeland, Director of Multi-Unit Operations for Sports Clips.

This week, Sports Clips locations in the Central Valley are giving back to the community with Holding its Haircuts with Heart Week.

"We're hoping to raise anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000," Kneeland. "We've had a lot people come in and ask to give cash donations."

Supporting The Wilson Heart Center at Valley Children's Hospital hits home for the owners.

On New Years Eve in 2004, Kneeland's twin sister, Sarah, went into heart failure at just seven years old.

Matt Kneeland remembers when it happened.

"We were on a camping trip, she went into heart failure," he said. "We got her into a children's hospital, and they did a subsequent heart transplant."

Afterwards, Sarah continued to receive cardiac care.

Just two years ago, she received her second heart transplant.

"She has been getting monthly, quarterly and annual heart care follow-ups since then," Matt said.

The Wilson Heart Center at Valley Children's offers state of the art pediatric cardiac care.

George the Giraffe, the hospital mascot, even paid a visit at the Fowler and Herndon location to help kick off the first-ever fundraiser.

During a time hectic holiday shopping, many still are remembering to give back.

"We've had employees ask if they can donate cash also," Matt said.

Haircuts with Heart Week lasts until Saturday.

Right now, the fundraiser is happening at the Fresno and Clovis Sports Clip locations.

The business hopes to expand it to their other Central Valley stores.
