FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A stolen lottery machine was found cracked open with unscratched tickets near Caruthers and Bethel in Fresno County, just south of Selma, around 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities are now searching for the suspects.

The Sheriff's Office found the machine was taken from Delano.

Police in that city say the $20,000 machine was stolen from State Market on Cecil and Kensington just before 2 am Tuesday.

The California State Lottery added that no tickets were taken from the machine.

"Even if they were, the lottery has a way of deactivating them remotely," CA State Lottery spokesperson Carolyn Becker said. "I'm confident the tickets that are recovered from the field there will be investigated for damage. If they have been compromised in any way, they are not playable."

The State Lottery says it typically sees more petty crimes, unlike this.

"It is pretty rare to hear of an entire vending lottery machine taken out of a retail environment. It's heavy," she explained.

Investigators have not released how much money was stolen from the machine, but the State Lottery says the thieves may be disappointed.

"Those lottery machines carry a minimal amount of cash," Becker explained.

Delano police believe the thieves drove a white van, but did not release a description of the suspects.
