You never know what you might find in someone's backyard, but once you go through the gate to Bob Moglia's place, you're likely to be blown away. That's because the slightest breeze makes it come alive. Dozens of windmills and whirligigs of all types are spinning like crazy.
What made him think he wanted to do this? "Just for the fun of it," said Moglia. "A lot of people wanted to get me to build them, and sell them, and I said, 'nah, I don't want to do that.'"
A retired truck driver, Moglia started building these things a few years ago. And even if it's not windy, he's put motors on some of them, and they are made out of whatever he can find.
"What that is, actually, is the axle out of my boat trailer," said Moglia.
When asked which one is his favorite, Moglia replied, "Oh, I think the one with the auger, with the little animals on it. I couldn't figure out what I could do to make it turn that slow, and it's a rotisserie out of a barbeque."
Moglia's creations are all over the yard, and he'll make something out of anything.
"These are black walnut stumps across from the high school," he said.
Moglia says he took up all this craftwork because he got too old for hunting. And the drought has made the lakes too low for good fishing. So, this stuff just keeps him going. Something's always moving in his backyard.
"Yeah, my neighbors say if we ever get a strong wind, your whole yard is going to blow away," said Moglia.
