"I was in shock cause I'm like, oh my gosh, why are they closing Madera," said resident Jessica Mendoza.
She tells Action News she relies on the services the nonprofit offered.
"It's absolutely a horrible thing for the whole community," said Jessica Mendoza.
This was the sign posted at the location on Friday.
"It's always horrible to have to lay off staff and to make cuts," said Planned Parenthood Mar Monte President and CEO, Stacy Cross.
More than 60 staff members are being let go across five closing locations.
Aside from Madera, South San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, and Gilroy are also closing.
Mar Monte is the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the nation, with 30 locations across California and Nevada after these closures.
"When Trump signed the reconciliation bill, we were immediately tagged for defunding. As you know, there are four criteria in the bill and we fit all four of the criterias. Even though it didn't say 'Planned Parenthood', it meant Planned Parenthood," said Cross.
The organization said it's losing about $100 million in funding, more than half its annual revenue.
Last year alone, Mar Monte says it served more than 22-thousand patients across its clinics.
While abortion services often draw the most attention, the organization also provides other care.
"I think in about the last 5 to 10 years, about 80% of new infections that I've seen for HIV, cause that's my primary practice, have been picked up by Planned Parenthood," said Mader Public Health Officer, Doctor Simon Paul.
He said the closure is a significant blow to public health in Madera, and worries some patients may now fall through the cracks.
"If people are used to going somewhere else, they're not sure, they're not having symptoms. You know, cancer screenings, you're not having symptoms, going somewhere new, are you gonna be welcomed there? Maybe they don't make that appointment," said Dr. Paul.
