Fresno Police say that on the evening of May 25, Cortes was heading west on Olive Avenue when a silver Jeep making a left turn pulled out in front of the rider, causing a collision.

Cortes was taken to the hospital, but died over the weekend.

According to the family's GoFundMe, Cortes suffered major injuries to his head, neck and back. He was placed in an induced coma and could not breathe on his own.

The driver of the silver Jeep, identified as 33-year-old Yzamar Mendez, was later taken into custody.

Police say Mendez returned to the scene while officers were still investigating the crash.

She was booked into jail for felony hit-and-run as well as driving with a suspended license.

If you would like to donate to the family, a GoFundMe has been created to help with hospital costs and funeral expenses.
