The California Highway Patrol says they received reports of a solo vehicle accident just before 3:00 p.m. on I-5 just north of Gale Avenue.
A 2006 Gold Mercedes was driving north on I-5 when it suddenly swerved into the dirt median. The car turned counterclockwise and ended up on the other side of the interstate and flipped over a guardrail.
The vehicle went down an embankment, landing on its side.
Officers say there were two people at the time of the accident
A passerby pulled the 67-year-old driver and his passenger out of the vehicle.
The passenger has not been identified.
The driver was given CPR but died at the scene. The passenger was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with severe injuries.
The cause of the crash remains unknown.
