SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- An arrest has been made nearly 12 hours after a hit-and-run crash killed an elderly man in Sanger.

Police say 57-year-old Alvino Castro of Sanger was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of felony hit-and-run resulting in death.

The crash happened on Academy Avenue near Fifth Street just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found 71-year-old Bernard Anhelm of Sanger lying on the ground with injuries they say matched being hit by a vehicle.

Officers and EMS tried to provide medical aid but Anhelm was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say they used the city's public surveillance system, along with the recently implemented Flock license plate and camera system, to identify Castro's truck.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact the Sanger Police Department.
