FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man was pulled from a pond at the Regional Sports Complex in southwest Fresno and taken to the hospital.

The Fresno Fire Department says a witness reported a man going into the water around 8 pm Thursday at Jensen and West, but never saw him come back up.

Fresno Police, Fresno Fire and rescue dive teams all helped in the search for the man.

The fire department says he was pulled from the bottom of the pond about 40 to 50 minutes after his initial sighting, but his condition is currently unknown.

"We have a cold water protocol, where the body can last longer in cold water," says Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Timothy Fulmer. "All the water that we have in Fresno, besides a hot tub, so outstanding bodies of water, rivers, canals, stuff like that, are considered cold water, so it does extend our time to provide medical care to them. We don't know at this point."

Local emergency crews are reminding the public about the dangers of jumping into bodies of water as temperatures outside heat up.
