About 100 construction workers are currently on site each day as crews complete the finishing touches on the campus.
"So it's been about a two-year construction project, and we are in the final stretch of the project," said Rosalinda Cox, director of facilities planning and construction management.
The new school, which will serve transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade students, sits on 50 acres of land donated by King Husein, the owner of SPAN Construction and a longtime Madera resident.
"So, this school encompasses 10 buildings, it houses 1000 students and it's a transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade school, so that's something new for us," Cox said.
The campus includes several new features, such as an outdoor amphitheater, a covered outdoor basketball court and administrative offices designed with visibility into common areas.
In its first year, the school is expected to serve about 550 students in grades transitional kindergarten through seventh grade.
Principal Christina Riche said preparations are already underway inside the campus, even as construction nears completion.
"We are starting to order our books and all of our materials and supplies, and so we're just waiting to get in there," Riche said.
The school has also established its identity, adopting blue and gold colors similar to UCLA and selecting the "Royals" as its mascot.
"We wanted something to go along with King Husein, and we know Royals come with a high honor, but also high expectations," Riche said. "And so we are looking to set the standard here in Madera for high expectations, so the Royals have arrived."
All staff positions for the school have been filled, and administrators are now focused on building a strong campus culture as the opening approaches.
"We're all coming from different schools, but this is an opportunity for us to create a culture here that we want to see," Riche said. "We want to make sure that everybody feels welcome, and that we all belong."
Teachers are expected to gain access to their classrooms the week of July 20, with the first day of school scheduled for August 7.
