Janice Jackson can see a growing memorial from her front door step. That's where she told us her son 37-year-old Bobby Pearson was murdered only an hour after he was released from jail because of a technicality made by a confused jury. "No matter what he did or how much he did, he is my son and he still didn't deserve to die." Said his mother, Janice Jackson. She added, "I will always be his mother no matter what and I am always going to love him no matter what."
Jackson told us last Thursday, she was inside the house when Pearson and her daughter's boyfriend, Willie Gray were outside. She ran outside when she heard a loud noise and saw her son bleeding. Investigators believe the two men argued before Gray stabbed Pearson to death.
Now Gray who was being treated for injuries at Community Regional Medical Center is a free man and so far no charges have been filed.
"By Willie getting out, I was hurt. Yes, I was, but like I said I am just going to let go and let God. If it takes 30 years God will do what he sees fit," said Jackson.
Legal experts say gray could still end up back in jail. ABC 30 Legal Analyst, Tony Capozzi said, "The fact that charges have not been filed yet does not mean they will not be filed in the future. There's an investigation that's I'm sure going on. Once that's completed the District Attorney will then make a decision whether or not to file charges in this case."
Fresno police revealed Pearson had an extensive criminal history leading up to his death but his family tell Action News on the night he was killed, he was not armed.
No one from the District Attorney's Office would comment on the case citing the ongoing investigation.
