According to the PG&E website, the unplanned outage began just before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, affecting 2,441 customers in Fresno County.
In the Fresno area, over 1,500 were impacted in the Mayfair area near Cedar Avenue, stretching past Blackstone Avenue between Shields and McKinley Avenues.
As of 9:30 p.m. Sunday, 821 residents remain without power.
A PG&E crew is working to restore power to the affected homes and businesses.
Power is expected to be restored by 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
This comes as the Central Valley remains under an active Extreme Heat Warning. On Sunday afternoon, Fresno reached its hottest day of the season with a recorded high of 109 degrees at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
Temperatures are expected to drop in degrees by the end of the week.
