FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- We are learning more details in the astonishing survival story of a Selma man who went missing for weeks in the snow-covered mountains.

Ron Dailey went out for a day of hunting near Swamp Lake Trail, east of Dinkey Creek on October 13.

Dailey said he took a wrong turn and damaged his truck and was then stuck.

Snow came down on Dailey, just making the situation worse.

Dailey says he used snow for hydration and rationed the limited food he had.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office sat down with Dailey to hear more about those 20 days he was stuck in the wilderness

Dailey recounts the moment he was found.

"These guys are looking at me with binoculars and I literally just jumped up and started waving and the guys are looking at me and the guy in front leans out the window and goes, 'Ron Dailey?'" he recalled. "And I'm going oh my god they know my name. How do these guys know me? And it was just an awesome experience."

Dozens of volunteers had scoured the mountain community looking for him.

Dailey takes responsibility for getting lost in the mountains.
