ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Unbelievable damage to an Atwater home is now believed to be caused by a terrifying twister.

North Valley neighbors are still wrapping their heads around it.

"I have a nephew that lives in Kansas, I was like, dude you're the one in Kansas, we're the ones in Atwater, there's not supposed to be no tornadoes over here, they're supposed to be over there," said witness Jesus Duran.

Kris Mattarochia with the National Weather Service Hanford confirmed with Action News Tuesday evening that his team's initial findings point to a possible tornado touching down in Atwater.

"The preliminary findings was that there was absolutely a tornado here. There's video evidence, there's ground truth," Mattarochia said.

Video captured by Duran shows the moment those relentless winds pulled large pieces of debris hundreds of feet into the air.

Moments later, those pieces were scattered all over the surrounding area.

"The metal siding was lofted about four football fields away from its source, which takes a lot of energy and a lot of power," Mattarochia explained.

One of those massive pieces of metal was strung up in a power pole.

The stormy spectacle left Duran in disbelief.

"You don't really get that much here in this area, so it was definitely a sight to see. It was pretty scary," Duran said.

He lives just down the street on Central Avenue, and told us he first thought he was hearing hail, but quickly realized it was something much bigger.

"It sounded just like aluminum rumbling everywhere in the air. It was pretty crazy," Duran said

The family was home when the storm passed through, but no injuries were reported.
