Last week, Action News reported that Flight 36 was at risk of cancellation due to insufficient funding. The nonprofit organization needed to raise $150,000 to send veterans to Washington, D.C., where they can visit memorials dedicated to their service at no cost.
On Monday, Central Valley Honor Flight President Paul Loeffler told Action News that the fundraising goal has been surpassed.
"I've got to say the community really stepped up. We have an unbelievable community. We live in a special place filled with special people and to see generosity on display. Central Valley Honor Flight is simply a generous reflection of the valley when it comes to our veterans, so on behalf of all our volunteers and donors, we just want to say thank you," Loeffler said.
The organization said about 400 Valley veterans remain on the waiting list for a future Honor Flight.
