SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Residents of San Francisco had quite a sight on Saturday.
The Department of Transportation blasted a section of the old bay bridge span.

The underwater implosion lasted only about six seconds, but hundreds of workers helped make sure it went smoothly. That included precautions to protect the fish and other sea animals. A floating sonar system helped repel them initially and seconds before the blast, a bubble shield was created.
The project temporarily halted traffic across the bay bridge and shut down service of the Transbay tube.
