VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Visalia man will remain locked up after Tulare County prosecutors secured a three-year denial of parole for 41-year-old Andres Ybarra.

He is serving a life sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Ruby Lopez.

Lopez was found at the couple's home in bed in 2016.

Ybarra claimed she had overdosed on prescription medication.

An autopsy revealed massive internal injuries.

Her cause of death was attributed to blunt force trauma and strangulation.

Ybarra was sentenced 15 years to life in prison in 2019.
