Dashcam video captured by ABC30 Insider Zoe G. showed traffic moving along the highway before the pedestrian entered the roadway. In the footage, a van narrowly avoids the man in the fast lane as he walks across the busy highway.
The video also shows Zoe G. slowing nearly to a stop to allow the man to pass as he approached the median.
CHP told Action News that the pedestrian was eventually struck in the middle of the highway after entering the direct path of a Dodge pickup truck.
Northbound Highway 41 was closed for about two hours while investigators processed the scene.
Authorities said the pickup driver remained at the scene. CHP also said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol.
