Psychologists testify in transfer hearing for teen girl accused in Caleb Quick's death

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- On Thursday, a key expert testifying in the case of a teen girl prosecutors want tried as an adult for the death of Caleb Quick.

"It seems pretty clear she was upset at Caleb," Dr. Blake Carmichael said.

The teen girl is accused of driving the getaway car, a white Tesla.

Prosecutors are now arguing that she is fit for adult court, calling the psychologist to the stand.

"There seemed to have been conversations and planning," he said, "to startle and intimidate (Caleb)."

"That's not a reactive, rash reaction," the psychologist said. "There was certainly some intent."

For nearly two hours, Carmichael walked the judge through his 16-page report.

He evaluated the girl on five criteria, saying that of four of them, the juvenile system was suitable.

Only for one, the gravity of the crime, did he think juvenile hall wasn't appropriate.

But the psychologist noted he never actually interviewed the girl.

"I did a consultation as opposed to a full evaluation," he said, "largely because I was not allowed to meet with her."

Carmichael says a complete evaluation could've changed his conclusions.

The judge then heard from the defense psychologist, Dr. Lisa Kalich.

"In my opinion," she said, "I found that each of these factors would be more juvenile leaning."

Kalich testifying that the girl "is capable of growth and rehabilitation."

As the girl's transfer hearing plays out, the mother of the teen boy, the alleged shooter, is speaking out in a now-deleted TikTok.

"The victim is an alleged rapist, and the detective confirmed there are six videos...," the boy's mother said.

Action News exclusively reported those allegations last June and Quick's family told us again on Wednesday that they are not proven.

"It just feels like this was all just rumors and then this is vigilante justice off of a rumor," Caleb's father says.

The teen boy is now waiting for his transfer hearing later this year as the judge prepares a ruling in the teen girl's hearing.
