Road Closures

The Visalia Police Department will be escorting the procession to and from the service.

Anyone in the area should be prepared for the closure of Caldwell Avenue at all major intersections leading to Visalia First.

The procession is scheduled to begin 9:30 am. The second is scheduled for 1 pm, where Hoppert's body will be escorted from Visalia First to Salser and Dillard Funeral Home.

The Visalia Police Department plans to announce when all roads are fully reopened.

Deputy Hoppert's Death

Hoppert was killed in the line of duty on April 9 while responding to a call for support during an eviction notice at a home in Porterville.

He was shot and killed by 59-year-old David Morales, who was then killed after being over by a BearCat armored vehicle. The standoff lasted for nearly seven hours.

Hoppert, a Navy veteran, leaves behind his mother and sister, two sons, and a wife who is four months pregnant.

Over 30 officers went on administrative leave following Hoppert's death.

Community Support

Community members and organizations came out to support Hoppert's family and the Tulare County Sheriff's Office following his death.

The Visalia Rawhide gave all money from ticket sales from their April 16 game to Hoppert's family.

The sold-out game saw over 2,400 tickets sold. Rawhide staff tracked where fans purchased tickets, including as far east as New York.

One local gas station donated $10,012.04 to honor Hoppert, with "12-04" representing his badge number. Jack's Gas said the donation was inspired by the fact that Hoppert was a father and leaves behind a pregnant wife.

Local law enforcement agencies have also pledged ongoing help to the sheriff's office.
