Republican Valadao, securing more than two thirds of the vote, meaning the incumbent is moving forward.
Early vote counts show District 35's Assemblywoman, Dr. Jasmeet Bains, trailing behind her Democrat opponent, Randy Villegas.
"I am feeling proud of our campaign, our team, our community members, everybody who is knocking on doors, making phone calls," expresses Villegas.
Villegas, is a professor at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, and a local school district trustee.
His campaign efforts, focusing on resources for working families, including access to health care and education.
If Villegas moves forward, he will be up against Congressman Valadao, who represented District 21 from 2013-2018 and in his fifth term due to redistricting was elected to California District 22.
"In the same way that we earned every vote this election, we're gonna have to earn every single vote this November. And that means people who may have voted for either of my opponents. And I'm proud that we have a coalition of not just Democrats, but independents and Republicans," says Villegas.
The votes will be finalized by the Secretary of State in July.
In the meantime, leaders say despite the outcome, the importance of voting is unmatched.
