The evening part of the inaugural Mejia Family Scholarship.
The scholarship was created by Coalinga High Graduate Francisco Mejia and his wife, Dr. Fatima Mejia.
Five students were awarded $1,000 scholarships to support their college aspirations.
Our very own anchor, Jessica Harrington, helped present two of the scholarships.
She was also awarded the Mejía Family Scholarship Innovation Vanguard Award for her leadership in journalism and community storytelling.
The Coalinga native was also recognized by the local Chamber of Commerce for her contributions to the area.
