FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Global Superstar Shakira took the stage at Valley Children's Stadium Thursday night, where tens of thousands of fans flocked to experience her incredible energy, but getting into the stadium proved to be a nightmare for fans despite their excitement.

"I remember my childhood and listening to her, so I was so excited," said fan Cindy Magallon.

Fans were shaking their hips, dancing, singing and some...even crying...as they enjoyed two high-energy hours of Shakira's top hits.

It was a memorable night for Cindy Magallon and her childhood friend.

"Omg, when Shakira was doing the dancing, no singing, just her hips moving everywhere, I was just like OMG, it's happening! This is amazing."

Despite the highs of the night, Magallon says she's disappointed with the handling of entrance lines and parking.

She paid $60 for a spot in the white lot, but when she pulled up, she found it was full.

"There were other people coming, lowering their window, asking the same thing and they were frustrated as well," said Magallon.

She found parking several blocks away and says the traffic and chaos were disheartening, but what hurt her the most was missing the start of Shakira's performance.

"I'm walking with my friend as fast as we can, we hear the intro and it's song after song, I was like oh no."

The Fresno State Athletics Department released a statement before the concert ended, issuing an apology for the late gate opening and long lines.

Director Garrett Klassy posted on X Friday morning, saying in part, "Our staff showed grit, resilience, and curiosity-and we're a better department because of it. We'll keep learning and leveling up."

Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer is applauding the Athletics Department for bringing in a global superstar and taking on the unique challenge.

It's a move Dyer says is helping the department and the city.

"I applaud them. I know there were some glitches with people trying to get in, delays, and heat, which you cannot control. But overall, I think people were well entertained. From all the feedback, they really enjoyed," said Mayor Jerry Dyer.

Ben Wiele with American Ambulance agrees, saying there weren't any major emergencies despite the high heat.

"We had a plan in place, and that plan worked really well. We had about 3 dozen interactions with people who wanted to get checks out and 3 transports to the hospital," said Ben Wiele.
