MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced County sheriff's detectives are investigating a homicide from this weekend.
It happened at a home on Cone Avenue, just outside of Merced, on Saturday night. A 16-year-old boy claims he stabbed 39-year-old Benito Aguirre to protect his mother and himself during a domestic dispute.
"We have confirmed the victim was stabbed in the leg, and apparently it hit an artery which claimed his life," said Merced County Sheriff's Sgt. Delray Shelton.
Deputies tracked down the teen and his mom in Sacramento on Sunday night. They arrested the boy for murder, and his mother could face accessory charges. But that may all change if they find this truly was a case of self-defense.
